What is Alternative Provision (AP)?
It is education arranged by local authorities for school age children who,
because of exclusion, illness or who struggle in mainstream education, would not otherwise receive suitable education.
North Yorkshire Council have an AP register listing many providers of alternative education in the area, and Forest Quest is on it. The Council conduct annual quality checks to ensure we meet their standards.
Schools and individual parents can use the AP register to identify providers of the particular type of education they needand then contact them to seek a placement.

The Forest School Provision
Activities are wide and various and completely child-led. We will spend time each session introducing new skills such as nature discovery (exploring the forest’s flora and fauna), fire lighting, hand tool use, shelter building, survival skills, traditional crafts, map reading, knots, pottery, and more….! Then encourage the children to practice and develop the skills they particularly enjoy. The main aims of forest school are to develop self-confidence, resilience, perseverance, social skills, and fine motor skills; these activities and our approach definitely help with these.

Forest Quest's Alternative Provision
At Forest Quest we have just started providing forest school as an Alternative Provision. We are currently just running one morning per week for a limited number of children but, if the demand is there, we have the scope to expand.
We operate with 2 Forest School Leaders on site and we can therefore accommodate a wide range of ages and competencies.

Home Educated
We can also take children who are home educated. It is an ideal was to provide them with physical activity and social interaction. As well as learning cool new skills and developing their self confidence.
